ACUTE CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (ACNA)

CNA Acute Care Training

Description:

The Acute Care Nurse Assistant is a CNA who works in various departments of acute care hospitals such as medical surgical (MS), telemetry, intensive care unit (ICU), emergency room (ER), pediatric units, labor and delivery (L&D) within the scope of practice of the CNA. This certification helps you stand out from the other applicants when applying for jobs in hospitals, and can be the difference between you getting the job or not. Students will acquire expanded acute care skills, increase employment opportunities in acute care settings. Also the skills learned can be used as a ladder to help transition into the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing programs.

Acute Care CNAs are trained to a deeper and more specialized level. Acute Care training is focused on the knowledge and skills needed to work in acute hospitals (no nursing homes). Most of the hospitals expect their CNAs to be trained to this level or have at least 1 year experience of employment in a nursing home. Acute CNAs assist licensed nursing personnel in these settings in the provision of nursing care, creating opportunities for optimal client independence and supporting behaviors that promote positive healing.

Purpose:

This comprehensive training course will provide the Acute CNA with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to be able to deliver direct patient care to adults with complex and acute illnesses being cared in emergency departments, intensive care, trauma units, or other specialty care areas.
This state approved program is a requirement for entrance into the LVN and/or RN Program.
